Testing

On Wednesday, October 23, 2024, Siloam Springs High School will hold its annual building-wide testing day. Students across all grade levels will participate in a series of assessments, each tailored to their academic progress and future plans. The school is focused on providing valuable opportunities to support students in preparing for both academic milestones and future careers.

The testing schedule is as follows:

  • 12th Grade: Seniors will take the WorkKeys assessment, which measures essential workplace skills, including problem-solving, communication, and critical thinking. WorkKeys is often used by employers to assess job readiness, and high scores can lead to earning the National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC), a recognized credential for workplace excellence.

  • 11th Grade: Juniors will take the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery). This exam is widely used to help students explore their strengths and interests, guiding them toward potential career paths. For those considering military service, the ASVAB also serves as a qualifying test for enlistment, but it is just as valuable for identifying skills in areas like mechanics, electronics, and verbal communication for civilian careers.

  • 10th Grade: Sophomores will participate in the PSAT (Preliminary SAT), a preparatory standardized test for the SAT, one of the key college entrance exams. Additionally, high scores on the PSAT may qualify students for scholarships, including the National Merit Scholarship Program, offering an opportunity for future academic financial aid.

  • 9th Grade: Freshmen will take the ATLAS Interims (Arkansas Teaching and Learning Assessment System) , which are designed to assess their progress in core subjects and provide insights into areas where they may need additional support. The ATLAS Interims play an important role in setting academic benchmarks for the school year, helping students stay on track for future success.

In preparation for this important day, students are reminded to bring their Chromebooks fully charged to ensure a smooth testing process. Chromebooks will be needed to complete the assessments, and having them charged and ready is essential. It is also recommended that students get a good night's sleep and eat a healthy breakfast to be mentally and physically prepared for the tests.

Testing days like this one are crucial in gathering data that can help students, parents, and teachers better understand individual strengths and growth areas. The results can be used to plan for academic improvement, career exploration, and post-graduation plans. The school administration encourages parents to remind their children of the importance of these assessments and to ensure they arrive on time and ready to perform their best.

By offering a diverse range of tests, SSHS is committed to equipping its students with the tools they need for both academic success and future career readiness.
