Community Service Requirement for the Class of 2027 and Beyond
New Graduation Requirement per Arkansas Act 237

Starting with the Class of 2027, all 9th and 10th-grade students at Siloam Springs High School, Main Street Academy, and Virtual Academy will be required to earn community service hours to graduate, as per Arkansas Act 237, also known as the LEARNS Act. This new mandate replaces the previous community service learning (CSL) credit for 11th and 12th graders. Here is the SSHS Community Service Information Page.

Community service is an integral part of this legislation, designed to enhance student learning while benefiting the community. Students will apply their academic skills to address local needs through activities that foster civic engagement and personal responsibility. The emphasis goes beyond simple volunteerism by integrating teaching, preparation, action, and reflection into the service experience.

Students can complete these activities within Arkansas or outside the state, but approval from the Community Service coordinator or district administration is required. This initiative aims to not only improve the students' learning but also make a meaningful impact on the local community.
