SSHS

Get ready, SSHS readers! The SSHS Book Fair is just around the corner, taking place on Friday, February 28, as part of our celebration of Read Across America. This cherished event honors a nationwide commitment to fostering a love of reading and inspiring young minds.

History of Read Across America
The celebration traces back to 1997 when the National Education Association (NEA) launched Read Across America to spotlight the joys and importance of reading. The first official Read Across America Day was held on March 2, 1998, coinciding with the birthday of the beloved children’s author, Dr. Seuss.

A Day—and Now a Week—of Celebration
Traditionally held on March 2nd, the day serves as a tribute to Dr. Seuss's imaginative stories that have sparked the love of reading in generations of children. Over time, schools across the nation have expanded the celebration into a week-long event filled with creative activities, reading challenges, and community engagement.

This Year's Theme
Since the NEA took over the event, the theme has been "Create & Celebrate a Nation of Diverse Readers"—a call to recognize the richness of stories that reflect diverse experiences, cultures, and perspectives.
